Garden club, VanderWall team up to plant tree in Manistee

MANISTEE — Manistee is now household to a seedling from a 150-yr-outdated tree that graces the east lawn of the Michigan Condition Capitol in Lansing.

A short while ago point out Sen. Curt VanderWall, R-Ludington, contacted Mary Metzger, publicity chair of Spirit of the Woods Yard Club Inc. about planting the seedling tree from the Japanese Catalpa in Lansing.

The parent tree steps 107 feet tall and 85 ft huge, with a trunk over 20 ft in circumference, in accordance to a news launch from the back garden club. Michigan Condition College Tree Study Center lifted the sapling to the point wherever it is ready to plant.


Soon after discussion with the backyard club, it was decided that the tree would be planted at the Armory Youth Project in Manistee. VanderWall introduced the saplings to the Armory the place the trees will be retained in pots right until optimal planting time in fall.
