A professional cleaner has revealed why you should never use dishwashing liquid on carpet – despite singing its praises for almost every other surface.

Melbourne cleaner Kacie, from The Big Clean Co, says the product is one of the most versatile on the market but that whenever a chemical is put onto carpet it’s important to remove it completely.

Due to its make up, dishwashing liquid is one of the hardest to remove and therefore sits in the carpet for months going rancid.

Professional cleaners perform ‘hot water extractions’ on carpet where high pressure hot water goes into clean material and a powerful vacuum sucks dirt out.

Although if an amateur uses dishwashing liquid on the surface and a professional performs an extraction foam will bubble from the material.

‘So along comes a pro and that dishwashing liquid residue mixes with the high pressure water going in and hello foam,’ Kacie wrote.

‘You can’t hide those hacks you tried before you called a professional carpet cleaner… Your carpet reveals the secrets,’ she wrote.
